Here's What to Do
Take precautions necessary to protect the scene of the accident from further accidents.
Call the police. If someone is injured, request medical assistance. If fire is involved, request fire department aid.
Answer police questions. Give identifying information to other party involved, but make no comments about assuming responsibility.
What to do in the event of a Property Loss
Notify your insurance company or it's agent.
Protect your property against further damage.
Make reasonable and necessary repairs to protect the property.
An adjuster will be sent from your insurance company to examine the damage and give you an estimate of the cost of repairs or replacement
How to Minimize Water Damage
Shut off the water source if possible.
Remove as much water as possible by blotting or mopping.
Wipe excess water from wood furniture after removal of lamps and tabletop items
Remove and pro up wet upholstery cushions for even drying
Place aluminum foil or wood blocks under furniture legs
Remove oriental or other colored rugs from wet carpeting
Turn on air conditioner for maximum drying in summer.
Do not use household vacuum to remove water
Don't turn on ceiling fixtures if ceiling is wet, and keep out of areas where ceilings are sagging from retained water.
Don't use TV's or other household appliances while standing on wet carpeting or floors, especially not on wet concrete floors.
Don't leave books, magazines, or other colored items on wet carpeting.
Don't leave wet fabrics in place.
